Finca Los Arbolitos adjacent to TicoOrganico
In January of 2003, I bought the 3.5 hectare finca to the east-northeast, contingent to TicoOrganico. Both fincas from the year 2006 have been ready to be certified Organic after being transitioned from chemical farming.

About half of the older coffee plants that were not producing well were removed; we retained a portion of the healthiest coffee bushes and have planted approximately 600 more. The coffee on both fincas is Aribica Catuai red (10%), Caturra (20%) and hybrid (70%), grown at an altitude of nearly 3000 feet.

The soil is fantastic - rich, black, volcanic and will grow anything without amendments although we are applying calcuim carbonate and lime. There is an "ojo de agua" on this property above a boggy area and this moist lowland area will be left fallow and allowed to revert to native growth. The diversity and prevalence of birds and insects is phenomenal and constantly increasing.

In 2005, I purchased approx an acre or so of land bordering the east-northeast side of Finca Los Arbolitos in order to protect the stream running there from pollution by any use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides applied by the coffee farmer to the east. It will be included in the sale of Los Arbolitos.
